Day 33 - the Holy Spirit at work within us
In your own words ask God to help you hear and understand what He’s saying through His Word, and give thanks for the Holy Spirit that is empowering you to walk with Him after this devotional is done. Then read these verses (out loud if you are able).
2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (NIV)
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
In the beginning God said, “let us make human beings in our image,” and it was so. We were made to reflect the image of our Creator. Because of this every person regardless of race, gender, social status, or religion is to be afforded with dignity and value as one created in the image of God.
Sin distorts that image, bringing brokenness and death. Before Christ we were slaves to sin and unable to free ourselves from its bonds. But there is good news! Jesus died and rose again revealing the righteousness of God for us through faith, and as we believe in Him we are freed from those chains and raised to new life!
This is the work of the Spirit within us. We are now restored to relationship with God, no longer slaves but daughters and sons. God is with us! And where He is, there is freedom. As we are brought near to know God, we see His glory revealed. The same God who freed us from the punishment and enslavement of sin, continues to work within us, transforming us to love what He loves and live as He desires. We are set free to bring beauty into the world and show His glory to others more and more each day.
As we walk with God and experience His work in our lives, we begin to look more and more like the One who loves and has saved us. We are redeemed to reflect God’s glory to the world as it was intended for us to do since the very beginning.
Is it easy or difficult to see yourself as a reflection of God’s glory to the world? How easy then is it to see that this is what God desires for each and every other person? How should it change the way we value others?
Thank God for the freedom you have from sin and death today through the power of His Spirit. Pray through your day and invite God to use you to reflect His glory to those around you. Pray for someone who you believe is far from God to surrender to Jesus and experience the glorious destiny they were created for.
