Day 34 - the Holy Spirit at work within us

In your own words ask God to help you hear and understand what He’s saying through His Word, and give thanks for the Holy Spirit that is empowering you to walk with Him after this devotional is done. Then read these verses (out loud if you are able).

1 Corinthians 2:14-16 (NIV)

14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

There are so many different worldviews in our culture today and even more around the globe. The Triune God who understands it all and holds it all together knows the truth of all things. His wisdom, knowledge and understanding is limitless. There are incredible things that God knows that our finite minds cannot comprehend in the slightest, yet still today He gives us the mind of Christ!

When we put our faith in Jesus, the resurrection we experience transforms all of our being. A work of His grace, God has made us able to understand spiritual things through the work of His Spirit in us. Apart from Christ we would have considered those types of things foolishness, because it is only through God’s Spirit that they are discerned.  Before Christ we were only able to make human judgments, but now we are able to choose in the same way Jesus did as He lived here on earth. We died and rose with Jesus so that we literally could live a new life (Romans 6:4). The Holy Spirit makes this possible.

We can accept the realities of God’s Kingdom and the truth of God as it’s revealed, spoken and read right now because God has put that capacity in us by His Spirit. We can open God’s word and discern truth by the Spirit. We can participate in God’s kingdom as we say yes to the rule and reign of Jesus in each moment. We can follow Jesus and listen to His instruction every moment by the Spirit’s power. The things of God, eternal things are available to us today and there is no greater thing in this life than participating in what God is doing around us and inviting us into.

Do the choices you make reflect man’s wisdom and strength more or God’s? Where do you need God’s perspective and power in your life today?

Thank God for the work of His Spirt within you today, helping you be alive to spiritual things. Tell the Lord where you need His power and perspective today. Invite God to have His way in each moment. Praise God for what He is going to do today and for how He is with you always.
