Day 30 - the Holy Spirit reveals to God’s people

In your own words ask God to help you hear and understand what He’s saying through His Word, and give thanks for the Holy Spirit that is empowering you to walk with Him after this devotional is done. Then read these verses (out loud if you are able).

Romans 8:15-16 (NLT)

15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” 16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.

Not only does the Spirit affirm in our hearts that we know and have relationship with God. Not only does the Spirit remind us of the great inheritance and hope that we have in Jesus, but also the Holy Spirit tells us who our Father is. The Spirit reminds us what family we are a part of,  and of who we belong to. The Spirit tells us who we are.

No matter what your earthly or even church family looks like, we have been adopted into a beautiful family without dysfunction or abuse and filled with perfect love and care. God is our heavenly Father. We can come to Him like children would go to a loving dad. And we are His kids, His children. That is who we are. Nothing else gets the right to define us. Not our successes, failures, experiences or even pursuits. We belong to God. We are His. This is everything. This changes everything. We are loved sons and daughters of God, and He loves us fiercely and perfectly with an unfailing and everlasting love.

Do you have trouble relating to God as a Father? Why or why not? Invite the Holy Spirit to reveal God as a loving Father to you. Invite the Spirit to affirm in your heart that you belong to God and are His child.

Thank God the work of the Holy Spirit helping you know that you belong to Him. Praise God for His fatherly care, for how He defends, protects, leads, guides, cherishes, delights in and comforts us. Listen for His still small voice by the Spirit. Is there anything your Father is saying to you today?
