Day 32 - the Holy Spirit at work within us
In your own words ask God to help you hear and understand what He’s saying through His Word, and give thanks for the Holy Spirit that is empowering you to walk with Him after this devotional is done. Then read these verses (out loud if you are able).
Romans 8:26-27 (NLT)
26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.
Did you know that there are specific things God wants us to pray for?
Paul says here that one of our weaknesses or limitations is that we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. This is why the Spirit is intimately involved in our prayer life.
The Spirit of God prays for us.
In that moment where we know we need God to act, yet we don’t even know what to ask for the Spirit is at work. We can’t even express the words, yet our souls are crying out to our heavenly Father, and the Spirit intercedes for us, praying for the things we don’t even know how to ask for.
This is a good thing, because our heavenly Father knows our hearts. He knows us through and through and is aware of exactly what we need. His will for us is good. What He has for us is always life, and the Holy Spirit is pleading for us in harmony with those good things the Father desires for us.
Take a moment to think through how you pray. Do you simply pray for outcomes that you want? Or are you seeking to pray for the things God desires for your life?
Start your prayer with praises to the Father for His love, care and faithfulness. Thank God for knowing exactly what you need and for always acting righteously towards you. Invite the Spirit to help you pray in harmony with what God wants for you and pray that God’s will be done in your life to His glory.
